Goal Zero Yeti 3000 Lithium Solar Powered Generator | The Ultimate Package

4.0 rating

UPDATE: The Yeti 3000 Lithium is no longer available. However, Goal Zero released its successor, the Yeti 3000X, which is their current model. I compared the new model to the 3000 Lithium in my post found here.

There is a clear difference between the Goal Zero Yeti 3000 and your average solar-powered generator.

Imagine you’re at a grocery store and the power goes out at home from a storm front that came in just a few minutes ago. Everything is out.

Your fridge, your lights, your garage opener. What do you do? Panic and race home to make sure all the kids are okay?

Or relax and pull out your phone to turn on your Goal Zero Yeti 3000 Lithium to access power onto the valuable necessities of your household?

Yes, that’s right, this portable solar generator can power your appliances in your house from an app on your phone!

This all happens over WiFi, so you can power your house with the Yeti 3000 from anywhere in the world as long as you have a WiFi connection!

Why Choose The Yeti 3000 Lithium Solar Generator?

Yeti 3000 Lithium front view

With its lithium battery, LED display, and easy access roll cart, the Yeti 3000 is more than just a battery, it’s something that you can take on any adventure, outdoor gathering, or wherever you may need portable or backup power.

This specific generator has a lithium battery, which is lighter and longer-lasting than a lead-acid battery, which was inside of the past generation models, such as the Yeti 1250 and Yeti 400.

This generator weighs 68 pounds (30.8 kg) which is much lighter than the Yeti 1250’s 103 pounds (46.7 kg).

It is also much more powerful, pumping out 1,500 Watts of continuous power, with surge power of up to 3,000 Watts!

With this power output combined with the weight, this makes the Yeti 3000 Lithium the most powerful portable solar generator in Goal Zero’s lineup. It is not the lightest, however, for its power output.

That crown goes to the Inergy Kodiak, which has a very similar power output, yet is only 20 pounds. But there are many other features in the Yeti 3000 that make it a powerful contender (no pun intended) for the best solar generator on the market.

Special Features of the Yeti 3000

There are many special features of the Yeti 3000 Lithium, including an MPPT controller, roll cart, and its mobile application where you can power your generator from anywhere in the world!

MPPT Controller

The MPPT controller lets you charge your generator from solar panels with a faster current.

It is located on the top portion of the generator, and the ports can go up to a 22 Volt input.

As you can see above, you can find the various connections to your MPPT controller (aka Solar Charging Optimization Module).

Roll Cart

The roll cart comes standard with all Goal Zero Yeti 3000s.

You can easily move it like a piece of luggage and it is a big help, especially since it is pretty heavy.

Most Powerful Generator By Goal Zero

This 3000 Watt generator is the most powerful out of all other solar generators by Goal Zero.

They are known for their powerful and durable generators and have a history of making quality products that are built to last.

Most Unique Feature – Mobile Friendly Application

The mobile application is a unique feature specifically for the Yeti 1400 Lithium and the Yeti 3000 Lithium.

The app lets you turn the power on and off with your device wherever you’re at in the entire world! As long as you have access to WiFi, you can power your portable solar generator with ease.

What Can The Yeti Generator Be Used For?

  • Sporting Events – You can bring this to any sporting event and cool everyone off with a fan, keep a mini fridge for cold beverages, and even power speakers for tailgates!
  • Big Outdoor Parties – This can power electric grills, light up any outdoor patio, and even run a TV outside!
  • Home Backup – Great for any safety measure and will keep your fridge powered for a couple days depending on the size and energy output. Also necessary for communication devices.
  • Camping Trips – Important for lighting, devices, CPAP machines, and other accessories you bring with on a trip in the great outdoors.

How to charge the Yeti 3000

There are two ways to charge this large solar generator. First, via solar panels, which will take about 30-60 hours to fully charge with the Boulder 200 Briefcase model solar panels. If you are charging with more powerful panels, say a series of rooftop panels, the maximum charge time is six hours.

With the wall charger included, you can charge the Yeti 3000 up in 25 hours.

You can also charge your Yeti with both the solar panels and the wall charger simultaneously!

Specs, Connections, and LED Screen

Some new technologies that stand out are the USB-C ports found in the middle of the display outside of the USB ports.

As you can see, the port on the left is a Power Delivery USB-C port, which charges newer laptops and electronics much faster than previous USB-C technology. On the right-hand side, there is a standard USB-C port at 15W…

The Goal Zero Yeti Application

The application included with your portable solar generator makes it a great tool for powering your devices and home from anywhere in the world with a WiFi connection.

You can be sitting in a coffee shop and power your Yeti 3000 on or off with this leading-edge technology.

Unfortunately, the 3000 Lithium is no longer available. The improved version is the Yeti 3000X which I wrote a post about. You can read it here: The Goal Zero YETI 3000X – In-Depth Review and Comparison.
