The battery capacity of the Yeti 3000X is 3,032Wh (10.8V, 280.8Ah). So, the solar generator charges several devices for longer periods of time because its battery is one of the largest single batteries in the industry.

A high battery capacity like that of the Yeti 3000X ensures that the solar generator is more reliable for several purposes. The 3000X works for emergency power backup, off-grid events, and even in your RV.

The Yeti 3000X power rating is one of its most impressive features. It’s made up of a 2,000W continuous, 3,500W surge AC inverter that can run power-consuming devices and appliances with ease. The “battery type” category describes the kind, or more specifically, the cell chemistry  of the solar generator’s battery. Most solar generators today use the lithium-ion battery, while some still use the heavier lead-acid battery. The only battery type that can compete with lithium-ion or lithium NMC batteries are lithium-iron-phosphate (LiFePO4) batteries. Aside from those two battery types, others are less common in the industry.

The Yeti 3000X uses a lithium-ion NMC battery. These batteries are lighter in weight than lead-acid, and they also have high energy densities. A high energy density makes the solar generator more reliable for charging and powering several types of appliances.

The lithium-ion battery in the 3000X has a low self-discharge compared to batteries like lead-acid. It’s safe to say that the Li-ion NMC battery in the 3000X has several impressive advantages in the solar generator industry.

The Yeti 3000 Lithium also uses the Li-ion NMC battery, which means users can enjoy a stable source of power. As expected, the battery’s energy density in the Yeti 3000 is also high, making it equally reliable.

A power station with a low battery capacity cannot hold as much energy as one with a higher battery capacity value.

The Yeti 3000X has a battery capacity of 3,032Wh (10.8V, 280.8Ah), whereas the Yeti 3000 Lithium has a capacity of 3,075Wh (10.95V, 280.8Ah).

At this capacity, the Yeti 3000 Lithium goes beyond charging phones, tablets, and laptops. It can power home appliances like microwaves and full-size refrigerators, just like the 3000X.

Verdict: Both the Yeti 3000X and the Yeti 3000 Lithium have very close battery capacities. However, the Yeti 3000 is slightly higher than the Yeti 3000X by 43Wh. Battery Expandability – Yeti 3000X vs 3000 Lithium

Expandability means the ability to scale up the battery capacity. Some solar generators (usually large ones) produce expandable batteries connectable to the solar generators to provide a higher battery storage capacity. One of the common solar generators known to have this feature is the Titan.

The Yeti 3000X is not expandable. Expandable solar generators must use a Goal Zero Yeti Link Expansion Module, which is not currently compatible with the 3000X. Fortunately, Goal Zero promises to release a compatible link solution soon for its larger  Yeti X solar generators.

The Yeti 3000 Lithium is an expandable solar generator. It features a battery chaining technology that permits users to link extra batteries with ease. Using Goal Zero’s Yeti Tank lead-acid expansion battery, a single Tank will add 1,200Wh of energy storage to the solar generator. This feature enables the generator to charge and power devices and appliances for much longer periods.

Aside from the Yeti 3000 Lithium, other Yeti models like the Yeti 1000 Lithium and the Yeti 1400 Lithium are compatible with the Yeti Tank expansion battery.

Verdict: It’s clear that the Yeti 3000 Lithium is a better choice based on this category. The Yeti 3000 is compatible with the Yeti Tank expansion battery, while the Yeti 3000X is not currently compatible. Thankfully, Goal Zero promises to release a compatible solution, which is expected to work for all the Yeti X solar generators.

Yeti 3000X vs 3000 – Charging Speeds

The amount of time it takes for your solar generator to charge can determine how much you enjoy the device. Most solar generators charge to 80% within 24 hours. However, a solar generator’s charge time largely depends on the type of battery, battery capacity, charge controller quality and type, and more.

The Yeti 3000X takes 18 – 36 hours to charge using a 200W solar panel, preferably the Boulder 200 Briefcase. However, since it can take in up to 600W of solar input, you can charge the power station in as little as six hours with the appropriate amount of panels (600-1,200W) and good weather conditions.

If you are charging your solar generator from the wall, it’ll take 14 hours when using the 230W AC wall charger that comes with it. However, there is a 600W AC wall charger sold separately that will charge it in six hours.

The Yeti 3000 Lithium also takes 18 – 36 hours to charge with the Boulder 200 Briefcase, a solar panel rated at 200W. However, with the maximum solar input, you can charge it from 3-6 hours.

This is an outstanding number because it beats the newer 3000X solar charge time. In order to create this setup, you will need to get the right equipment. In the “Q&A” section of the 3000 Lithium on Goal Zero’s website, their support staff answered the question on how to properly set up the Yeti 3000 to receive maximum solar intake. Yeti 3000 Lithium Q&A

For AC charging with its two included wall chargers, it will take 25 hours to charge up. This is almost twice as long as the 3000X.

It takes a maximum of 10 hours to recharge when using the Yeti Fast Charge 25 Amp Power Supply (not included). But as you’ll see when clicking the link, the power supply is no longer available. You may be able to find it on an auction website or marketplaces like eBay and Facebook Marketplace (along with a little luck).

Interestingly, both solar generators can be charged when using the Goal Zero Yeti Lithium 12V Car Charging Cable. However, the manufacturer didn’t specify the generators’ charge times when using their car charging cable.

Verdict: It takes the same amount of time for the two solar generators to charge up using a 200W solar panel. However, with the maximum solar input, the 3000 Lithium beats the 3000X with a faster charge time. With no additional AC charging attachments, the Yeti 3000X beats the 3000 by a whopping 11 hours. Even with upgrades like the 600W AC charger for the 3000X and the 25A power supply for the 3000 Lithium, the 3000X still beats the 3000 Lithium by four hours of charge time (6 hours total).

Comparing the 3000X & 3000 Lithium’s Weight and Portability

Due to most solar generators’ applications, it’s essential that they are lightweight or, at least, minimally heavy. A large solar generator can be significantly more challenging to transport compared to a smaller one. For this reason, many manufacturers try to produce a lightweight but effective generator for outdoor use.

However, the Yeti generators we are going over are not of this type. They are very heavy and are mainly meant to stay in one place for a long time. That being said, there is a roll cart that allows transportation to be much easier than without it.

The Yeti 3000X weighs in at 69.7 pounds. The Yeti 3000 Lithium has an overall weight of 68.6 pounds. Both power stations come with a roll cart for easier transport.

Verdict: Both solar generators are heavy compared to many others in the solar industry. However, it’s unsurprising due to their large battery capacity specifications. Impressively, both the 3000X and the 3000 Lithium use roll carts, making them easier to transport. The Yeti 3000 is a better choice in this category since it emerges 1.18lbs lighter in weight than the Yeti 3000X.

Durability/Cycle Life of the Yeti 3000X & 3000 Lithium

One cycle can be defined as the time it takes to drain a charged battery completely and then recharge it completely. Hence, a battery with a higher cycle life is preferable over one with a lower value.

The Yeti 3000X has 500 cycles to 80% capacity with a discharge rate of 1C, full charge and discharge, at a temperature of 77° F (25° C). For shelf life, users should charge between three to six months. The Yeti 3000 Lithium also has 500 cycles to 80% capacity. So, if the generator is used fully every day, it will last for well over 12 months (obviously this is an exaggerated example). With average use, the life span of the battery will be around three to five years or more.

Verdict: Both of the Goal Zero Yeti solar generators have the same lifecycles. So, when comparing both of these power stations, it’s evident that they will both last for the same amount of time.

Inverter Size – Yeti 3000X vs 3000 Lithium

The inverter size is defined by the power output of the solar generators. Both systems have a power output that gives them the ability to run several power tools and appliances.

The Yeti 3000X has an inverter rating of 2,000W continuous with up to 3,500W of surge power. The Yeti 3000 Lithium has a rating of 1,500W continuous with a 3,000W max surge.

Verdict: According to the price level, the Yeti 3000X is $200 higher than the Yeti 3000. Hence, it’s safe to say that the more affordable generator for users is the Yeti 3000 Lithium.
