Solar Generator FAQs – Page 5

Key Takeaways Very few solar generators are fully made in the USA; most rely on global supply chains. Some brands assemble or partially manufacture components domestically. US-based options often focus on modular or large-scale backup systems. Buyers should verify claims of origin and prioritize build quality and support. I'll be sharing four solar generator companies and models that are made in the USA. Here's what you'll learn from this post: What I based my research on to identify US vs foreign solar generator companies. The types of solar generators available along with the type I've used in my research. A quick view of the four companies and models I’ll be covering. The #1 most reliable USA-made solar generator company with the most documentation to back it up. The second American-made company that has several customization elements to their solar generators. My 3rd company on the list sells two models and is veteran-owned. USA-Made Solar Generators Should Be Manufactured in the USA From my research, most of the top results for this topic only base their research on the locations of company headquarters. For example, Goal Zero and Jackery have headquarters in the United States, but manufacture their solar generators in China - Goal Zero (source) and Jackery (see image below). I made this mistake in my initial iterations of this article, but now I have a solid list with sources for each company mentioned. This article focuses on companies with assembly and manufacturing in the U.S. Please be skeptical of any solar generator company that does not establish that they source their manufacturing from the United States. If it is hard to find where they are made, it most likely is NOT made in the USA. For additional manufacturing information on popular solar generator brands, check out my article here: Where Are Solar Generators Made? Brand by Brand Breakdown Types of Solar Generators A solar generator can come in many forms, such as: "Plug & Play" solar generators: Solar panels combined with portable power stations (the latter is an all-in-one system that comes with a battery, charge controller, and inverter). DIY solar generator kits: Essentially a "Plug & Play" system but each component is separately picked by the user. This allows for full customization, but also requires assembly and installation by a professional. Solar inverter systems: Solar inverters directly convert solar panel DC power into usable AC power for the home. In this post, I'll be discussing companies from the United States that mainly produce "Plug & Play" solar generators and will be going over some of each company's portable power station models. Brand by Brand Breakdown Inergy - Up and Coming Courtesy of Inergy Although Inergy isn’t currently listed among the brands above, the company recently announced a major initiative to bring manufacturing back to the United States. Inergy partners with Ultion to assemble power stations in the USA In a press‑release dated August 15 2024, Inergy explained that it has entered a strategic partnership with Ultion, a U.S.‑based battery‑technology company. The agreement will allow Inergy to assemble portable power stations in the U.S. for both consumers and the Department of Defense. According to Inergy, the partnership is more than a marketing exercise. By leveraging Ultion’s advanced battery manufacturing technology, Inergy plans to expand its production capabilities within the United States, which should improve quality control and reduce delivery times. Sean , Inergy’s CEO, said that Ultion shares Inergy’s passion for innovation and that combining Ultion’s manufacturing expertise with Inergy’s design experience will help deliver power solutions that can meet the rigorous demands of both civilian and defense customers. The companies expect the first USA‑assembled power stations to roll out in the near future. Both companies emphasised that this partnership is a milestone toward making more products domestically. Inergy describes itself as a leading provider of portable solar power systems for emergency preparedness, outdoor adventures and off‑grid living. Ultion, on the other hand, specializes in the development and manufacture of advanced battery materials, cells and packs in the United States and has more than 20 years of experience in lithium‑ion battery technology. Their collaboration is therefore expected to pair Inergy’s solar‑powered designs with Ultion’s U.S.‑made battery expertise to produce robust, American‑assembled power stations. This development isn’t reflected in the current market yet, but it signals that Inergy intends to join the small group of solar‑generator companies making products on U.S. soil. Keep an eye on Inergy over the next year or two; as the partnership with Ultion takes shape, their portable power stations could become a fully U.S.‑assembled option for off‑grid and backup power needs.
